If your hospital receives autologous and/or directed donor units from United Blood Services, you will soon see a new, easy-to-read tie tag on these units. The new standard size manila tags will have computer-generated labels: no more handwritten information. (See an example of an autologous tie tag at left. Click on the image to enlarge.)
We will use the printed tie tags on autologous and directed units collected beginning August 31, 2009.
We hope the increased readability makes it easier for your staff to process these special collections units, saving them time and reducing errors. The tag contains the key identifiers of last name, first name, date of birth, physician and hospital. It does not include middle initial. For questions about the new tie tags or other questions regarding our products or services, please contact your local United Blood Services center.
